In this chapter we will discuss the causes of the Depression, how it effected peoples' everyday lives, and the early actions (or lack of action) that the government took to stop the situation from becoming worse
The Main Objective of Chapter 14 is to understand the causes and consequences of the Great Depression during Hoover’s Presidency.
By the end of this chapter, students should be able to:
1. Summarize the problems threatening the U.S. economy in the late 1920s.
2. Describe the causes of the stock market crash and Great Depression.
3. Explain how the Great Depression affected the economy in the U.S. and throughout the world.
4. Describe how people struggled to survive in urban and rural areas during the Depression.
5. Explain how the Depression affected men, women, and children.
6. Explain what Hoover’s initial response to the Depression was.
7. Summarize how the public felt about Hoover.
8. Summarize the actions Hoover began to take to help the economy and the hardship suffered by people.
9. Describe what the Bonus Army was and Hoover’s actions towards it.
10. Explain the importance of the Hoover Dam to the Western U.S.
