The Main Objective of Chapter 23 is for students to understand the protest movements of the 1960s & 1970s, and the quest for change from Latinos, Native Americans, women, and young people.
By the end of this chapter, students should be able to:
1. Describe reasons for the growth and diversity of Latino population in the U.S. over the past century.
2. Summarize the efforts of Cesar Chavez and how they led to widespread political activism for Latinos throughout the U.S.
3. Explain the efforts of Native Americans to get changes to government policies.
4. Identify factors that led to the rise of the women’s movement.
5. Describe the legal and social changes that occurred as a result of the women’s movement.
6. Describe what the counterculture movement was and why it was only present for a short period of time.
7. Summarize the impact that the counterculture movement had on art, fashion, music, and attitudes in the U.S.
8. Explain how mainstream society responded to the actions of those in the counterculture movement.
