Bill Haley (born in Highland Park, MI... pictured in the middle in the back) and the Comets are considered to have the 1st rock 'n' roll song (Rock Around the Clock). to reach #1 on the Billboard popular music chart. It spent a total of 7 weeks at #1 in 1955. A year later, they were featured in the 1st rock 'n' roll movie with the same name. Click the link below to view the trailer.

This is 11 minutes worth of 20 - 30 second samples of famous rock and roll songs by various artists from 1954 - 1957. I will probably play portions of this while students take notes in class for sections 3 and 4.
