Women's Liberation
Members of the National Organization for Women (NOW) protest the 1968 Miss America beauty pageant as degrading to women. During the protest (which was covered by most national news outlets), demonstrators threw various items symbolic of women's oppression, including Playboy magazines, brooms, and bras, into a "Freedom" trash can. While no burning actually occurred at this event, this popularized the notion of bra burning at various sites (especially on college campuses) around the country.

This is a preview for a Netflix documentary. If this subject interests you, the documentary does a good job of presenting arguments for both sides and is updated to include the current political climate in the U.S.
