Everything Kennedy
I will show the part from 6 minutes to the end. The part before that is review of content covered in Section 1.
The Space Race
This 2:30 clip covers the leadership that the Soviet Union had in space (first satellite - Sputnik, first person in space - Yuri Gagarin). It also focuses on Kennedy's desire to change that by providing a ton of $$$ (around 20 billion $$$) to the new NASA program and setting the ambitious goal of landing a person on the moon (and having them return to Earth) before the end of the decade.
The Assassination of John F. Kennedy
John F, Kennedy was assassinated on Friday, November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas, at 1:30 p.m. JFK was in a motorcade with his wife Jackie, Texas Governor John Connally, and his wife Nellie. The 10 month investigation of the Warren Commission of 1963–1964 concluded that the President was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald. Before Oswald could stand trial or even be thoroughly interrogated, he was murdered by Jack Ruby (the owner of 2 strip clubs in the Dallas area) 4 days later while being transferred to a more secure prison. Oswald never admitted to killing the president and claimed to be a "patsy", which basically means that he was being framed for the entire incident.
To this day, many people are not convinced that Oswald acted alone and believe there was a conspiracy to kill the president for a variety of different reasons. Lyndon Johnson was sworn in as the 36th President of the U.S. less than 2 hours later while on board Air Force One.
This 2 minute clip summarizes the events around Kennedy's assassination and introduces Lyndon Johnson's presidency.
Zapruder Film of the Assassination
The Zapruder film is a 27 second, silent, color, motion picture sequence shot by private citizen Abraham Zapruder with a home-movie camera (pictured below) on 8 mm film as President John F. Kennedy's motorcade passed through Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963, which unexpectedly captured the President's assassination. Though not the only film of the shooting, it has been called the most complete, giving a relatively clear view from a somewhat elevated position, and on the side from which the president's head wound is visible. It was an important part of the Warren Commission hearings and all subsequent investigations of the assassination, and is one of the most studied pieces of film in history.
Conspiracy Theories - JFK Movie Trailer
There are many people that more than 1 person was involved with the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Do a search on the internet and you'll come up with many different theories of what people think happened. The most dramatic example put on film comes in the form of a full length feature movie made in 1991 by Oliver Stone called JFK (a 2:30 preview for the movie is listed above... we will not watch it in class). It features Kevin Costner, Joe Pesci, Tommy Lee Jones, and Donald Sutherland and discusses many of the possibilities that people have speculated on over time including the most famous one... that a 2nd shooter who was never identified was present in a grassy knoll in front of the motorcade.
